Reports of Native Church Board Meetings
Details
Publication NameReports of native Church Board MeetingsAbout this publicationThese reports were issued as Reports of meetings on Maori Church matters following the establishment of Native Church Boards (Hahi Maori) by the General Synod of the Church of the Province of New Zealand in 1868. Each Diocese exercised oversight of Maori church work, based on a system of parallel archdeaconries, pastorate and mission churches, instead of the previous system of the Diocese of Waiapu having oversight of all. The Church Boards arrangement operated from 1870 to 1925.
It appears that only Auckland and Waiapu had active Church Boards: these varied as to the districts included and so these reports from the Church Boards have been arranged as one chronological sequence regardless of Diocese (description taken from Books in Maori, ed Phil Parkinson and Penny Griffith, 2004, page 837).CategoryChurch Newspapers
