In June-July 1986, Archbishop Bryce researched and transcribed any references from the USPG records relating to the Diocese of Polynesia, including a series of letters from Bishop Montgomery as acting Secretary of the SPG in 1924, and 1872 - 1922, giving detailed progression of the development of the Diocese, the arrival of Bishop Twitchell; the indentured labour system.Additional informationResearch carried out from 20th June to 25th June, 1986, at Rhodes House in Oxford, England.

"Tilisi and myself [JL Bryce] left Fiji on the 2nd May and spent the 5th May to 5th June at Jerusalem attending the course on THE BIBLE AND ITS SETTING. We stopped off in Rome, Paris, and London before we came to Oxford on 16th June.

We went to the Rhodes House Library to meet the Librarian Mr Alan Bell who so kindly showed us the materials that have been transferred from USPH House in London to Oxford earlier this year. There are reports, letters sent out to Dioceses and correspondence received, plus administrative papers.

We were required to be registered with identification cards to prove who we were and to make a declaration about the use of the library." - From the front page
