Date20 September 1928DescriptionThe Southern Cross landed in New Zealand on 11 September 1928 at Wigram, Christchurch. The Southern Cross was crewed by pilot Charles Kingsford Smith, co-pilot Charles Ulm, navigator Harold A. Litchfield and wireless operator Tom H. McWilliam. It was the first aircraft to successfully cross the Tasman Sea. A series of receptions and events were held around the country for the crew.
